ABOUT CALVARY EPISCOPAL SCHOOL
Head of School's Welcome,
I am so excited for the opportunity to join Calvary Episcopal School. At Calvary, we adhere to the motto, "Terras Irradient -- Let them give light to the world." Our actions are grounded in ensuring that our students are provided with every opportunity and encouraged to share their light with the world around them.
Every day students take part in meaningful learning. From engaging classrooms, to morning devotions, to community service, to the program that pairs our older with our younger students, our children learn to look beyond themselves and to consider the viewpoints and feelings of others.
Through our rigorous academics, athletics, arts, and religion, our students learn to take responsibility and collaborate with their peers, to take risks and to strive for their best even when the challenge seems daunting. Our children are growing up in an interconnected world, and we embrace the strength that comes from a community that is inclusive and diverse, and in which all children feel valued, respected, and passionate about learning.
We welcome you to explore what makes our school such a great learning environment for children.
Head of School
Calvary Episcopal School fosters the development of the whole child in a Christian environment, models respect for others, and encourages a love of learning through a sense of joy and wonder in all God’s works.
You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in Heaven. Matthew 5:14 – 16
Terras Irradient – Let them give light to the world.
In chapel we sing and sign the Creed. “I believe in God above. I believe in Jesus’ love. I believe His Spirit, too, comes to lead me into Truth. I believe that I can be kind and loving, Lord, like thee.”
Calvary Episcopal School is accredited by the the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools (SAES) and is a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools (NAES).
Calvary Episcopal School began as a Mothers’ Day Out program prior to the establishment of the school. The plan for converting this program into a school developed in 2001, and the school opened in 2003. The school served two, three, and four year old children. Kindergarten was started in August 2007; the school expanded to first grade in August 2010, began second grade in the fall of 2011, third grade in the fall of 2012, fourth grade in the fall of 2013, fifth grade in the fall of 2014, and a sixth grade in the fall of 2016. The Board of Trustees is developing a plan of action to grow through eighth grade.
Calvary Episcopal School is a parish day school located in the heart of historic downtown Bastrop off Main Street, where many of the buildings also have historic markers from the State. Calvary Episcopal School is an independently incorporated 501(c)(3) organization. The Rector of Calvary Episcopal Church chairs the board of trustees, which governs the school. The Head of School is responsible for the daily operation of the school, including hiring personnel, developing the program, and communicating with parents. Calvary Episcopal School applied for and received accreditation status from the Southwestern Association of Episcopal Schools (SAES) in 2008.
Calvary Episcopal School occupies all or part of several buildings – On the main campus, we have two buildings of approximately 3,000 square feet each, a 1,500 square foot modular building on the church campus and a classroom across Alley A. On our satellite campus at 117 Loop 150, we have several classrooms for the 4th through 6th grades. The committee for future growth and expansion was established in 2010, and continues to work on immediate and long term plans for the school.
